GREEN RIBBON SUNDAY

JANUARY 23 & 24, 2021
Regina Pro-Life is sponsoring the Green Ribbon Campaign to remember our preborn brothers and sisters who were denied life. We specifically ask that you pray for the preborn and for women seeking abortion. Each year, approximately 2,000 abortions are performed in Saskatchewan hospitals. Please wear a green ribbon to remember those lost to abortion. Pick up your GREEN RIBBONS at participating churches in Regina.

Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit (Jn. 15:1-17)
The 2021 resources for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity were prepared by an ecumenical contemplative community of women at Grandchamps in Switzerland. My short reflection on the theme is published in the January issue of Living with Christ. I have attached the text to this email. Please feel free to share it with your friends and invite them to enter into this period of spiritual ecumenism.
The 2021 theme calls us to pray and work for reconciliation and unity in the church, with our human family, and with all of creation. Drawing on the Gospel image of vine and branches, it invites us to nourish unity with God and with one another through contemplative silence, prayer, and common action. Grafted into Christ the vine as many diverse branches, may we bear rich fruit and create new ways of living, with respect for and communion with all of creation.

Covid-19 Updates
The most recent tightening of restrictions for mitigating the spread of COVID-19 as announced yesterday by Saskatchewan's Chief Medical Officer now include further restrictions on the size of all public gatherings:
https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/news-and-media/2020/november/25/covid-19-update-new-measures-in-effect-november-27?fbclid=IwAR3BKTR5EAO9uiYnFlXQAugU4oqSEIIW1AJ78369ZpZFw81q71tL-6g72ow
As of Friday, November 27 public gathering sizes are reduced to a maximum of 30 people.  This includes gatherings for Mass, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and all other parish events and activities.  As with previous number restrictions, this does not include necessary presiders, ministers, and ushers.

While food and drink services are also restricted in these contexts, we have received an authoritative indication that we are allowed to celebrate the Eucharist and to give communion. Distribution of communion should continue as per the directives found at the Church and Sacraments link below.

We will be making updates to our one-page guidelines for church and sacraments in the coming days to reflect these new restrictions. These can be found at the following link: https://archregina.sk.ca/content/church-and-sacramental-guidelines-covid-19-pandemic

All restrictions issued in past health orders remain in effect, including mandatory masking for all public gatherings.

Parishes are encouraged at this time to restrict all in-person meetings that take place outside of the Mass as well.  Where possible, meetings should take place online. If this is not possible, strict distancing, good hand hygiene, and masks are required. These meetings must also remain limited to 30 people.

TO PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS OF ST MARY’S PARISH
LITURGICAL ANNOUNCEMNT MONTH OF OCTOBER -MONTH OF THE ROSARY

  1. The month of October is known in the Church as the month of the Rosary. It was Pope St John Paul II who said that “the Rosary of the Virgin Mary is a prayer loved by countless Saints and encouraged by the Magisterium. Through the Rosary, the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer”. It should be noted that a plenary indulgence is granted, if the Rosary is recited in church, or public oratory, or in a family group, a religious Community or pious Association; a partial indulgence is granted in other circumstances. All Parishioners are encouraged to come to Church and join fellow Parishioners in reciting the Rosary before every Mass, as customary at St Mary’s In addition, during October, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be recited after every Mass in honor of Our Heavenly Mother and her gift of the Rosary given to the Church.
  2. On Wednesday; as customary, Mass is offered at 8am followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by all day adoration until evening Mass at 7:00pm. On Wednesday October 7, feast of Our Lady of Victory (Our Lady of the Rosary), (weather permitting) there will be a procession with the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Fatima statue around the Church property at 6:00pm with recitation of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary during the procession. All Parishioners are encouraged to attend adoration during the day and the procession at 6:00pm followed by Mass at 7:00pm. This feast was instituted by Pope St Pius V in thanksgiving to God for the miraculous naval victory at the battle of Lepanto (gulf of Patras near Corinth in Western Greece) brought about by Our Heavenly Mother by praying her Rosary day and night.  On Tuesday October 13th we plan an indoor procession with Our Lady of Fatima to honor Our Lady and the Miracle of the Sun displayed to many in the world (faithful and non-believers alike) on Her last appearance in Portugal on October 13, 1917.
  3. On Saturday October 17th there will be a DVD presentation on the Power of the Rosary (approx. 1hr) in the Parish Centre at 10:00am and 3:00pm. This presentation of the Rosary is being promoted by Mrs. Cathleen Devraj in several parishes within the city. A third session on October 17th is possible depending on the number of people desiring to attend. Space is limited to 30 people per session. Interested Parishioners can register by calling Mrs. Devraj at 306-789-0705 or Parish Office between 9am to 11:00am Monday to Friday at 306-522-3361.  The objective is to promote, encourage devotion to Our Lady and daily recitation of her Rosary not just in October but throughout the year as  the battle for the salvation of souls is never ending. We need Our Heavenly Mother’s intercession and protection.  Our Lady of Victory/ Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us. Amen.

Thank you, God Bless all of You and Your Families
Jesus, Mary, Joseph pray for us, save souls.
